Please enter a valid Project Code error when updating a project string- project workflow status is not approved

After clicking Funding Source or Expense in Project Master and selecting Update, an error shows: Unrecoverable Error Detected... Please enter a valid Project Code.

System Log shows: Application was aborted due to an unrecoverable error...  An endless loop error occurred.

User has Project permissions of Maintain project strings and Maintain revenue allocation setup.

Project workflow status is not approved when PAV workflow is not used

If PAV workflow is used, the project code in question is not yet in an approved status, once the project has been approved it will be available for use.

If PAV workflow has been deleted, create a PAV workflow business rule and release any project codes that are presenting this error, once all records are approved, the PAV rule can safely be deleted.

For assistance locating all Project Codes with this issue, or if all Projects should be in an Approved workflow status, contact General Ledger Support, a SQL connection will be needed.
