Using Actual for Age Effective Year Type for Life Insurance Deductions

How is the employee's age determined in the payroll when use Actual for the Age Effective Yr Typ?

Cause
  • If site using Check Date for age-based life insurance.  When use Age Effective Yr Typ = Actual, if the check date falls before the Age Effective Month/Day, the system will calculate the employee’s age as of the Age Effective Month/Day of one year prior to the year in the check date.  If the check date falls after the Age Effective Month/Day, the system will calculate the employee’s age as of Age Effective Month/Day of the year in the check date. 
  • If site using Start Date for age-based life insurance.  When use Age Effective Yr Typ = Actual, if the start date falls before the Age Effective Month/Day, the system will calculate the employee’s age as of the Age Effective Month/Day of one year prior to the year in the start date.  If the start date falls after the Age Effective Month/Day, the system will calculate the employee’s age as of Age Effective Month/Day of the year in the start date.

Note that sites may use the Start Date of the payroll, or the Check Date of the payroll to determine the employee's age.  This setting is in Payroll > Payroll Setup > Payroll Control Settings > Label USE CHECK DATE FOR AGE-BASED LIFE INSURANCE.
