Cause

Java based applications not set to open with the installed Java client.

Resolution

The WebStart version of the TCM Full Client will need to be opened using Javaws (Java Web Service). The following steps will walk you through the process. Note that steps 1 through 15 are not required but recommended:

  1. Go to the Start menu or search bar in Windows.

  2. Search for and select Configure Java.

  3. Click on Settings...

  4. Click on Delete Files...

  5. Check all three available boxes.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Click OK on Temporary File Settings window.

  8. Click OK on Java Control Panel.

  9. Click on File Explorer.

  10. Click on This PC.

  11. Double click on the C: drive.

  12. Double click on Users folder.

  13. Find the user's folder. Double click on it to open.

  14. Click on EmpireCache to highlight it.

  15. Right-click EmpireCache and click on Delete. This clears any current TCM Full Client cached files. If the user has never previously accessed the TCM Full Client, then this folder will not be present.

  16. Find the downloaded TCM Full Client either from the icon/shortcut on the desktop, or finding it in the Downloads folder.

  17. Right-click the file.

  18. Click on Open With.

  19. Click on Choose another app.

  20. Click on More apps.

  21. Click on Look for another app on this PC.

  22. On the left, click on Local Disk (C:).

  23. Click on Program Files (x86).

  24. Find the Java folder and double-click it.

  25. You will see a folder with the Java version. Double-click on it.

  26. Double-click on the bin folder.

  27. Find javaws.exe. Double-click on that.

The TCM Full Client should now start opening with Java going forward. The desktop icon/shortcut will also change to open with Java as well.
