Can Tyler SaaSMail be used in our Production Environment

Description of Issue

A Site wants to continue to use the SaaSMail server in their production environment for email notifications after going live

Context
  • Munis

  • MSS

  • Self Service

  • Utility Billing

  • Tyler Forms

  • Tyler Cashiering

  • Tyler Hosted SaaS

Cause
  • Site does not have a SMTP relay server available.

  • Site does not want to use their SMTP relay server for Tyler notifications.

  • Site has SaaSMail configured for SMTP but end-uses are not receiving emails

Resolution

Tyler Supports two options for sending e-mails:

  1. Customer provided SMTP server or

  2. Tyler provided SMTP relay using saasmail

  • It is a requirement that if a client elects to utilize the Tyler provided SMTP relay, the reply address that is used must be set as ‘noreply@tylertech.com’

  • Utilizing a customer provided SMTP relay server would allow clients the flexibility to adjust the reply address (such as utilizing ‘payroll@yourdomainhere.gov) and directly inspect email logs.

Additional Information
  • While we recommend use of a customer managed SMTP provider, Tyler provides SMTP relay services for our customers through our SaaSMail solution. The logging available is limited and there is a strict requirement reply or 'FROM' address is configured to use noreply@tylertech.com to avoid downstream email delivery blockers.

  • Tyler Support will assist in the configuration settings required in Tyler products for whatever SMTP relay each client uses. Many clients host email systems with an SMTP relay available for use. Gmail and Office365 are two of the most popular systems and many of Tyler's customers use their services successfully. There are also a number of companies that sell SMTP relay services and will assist you with the proper configuration for your domain. Tyler can configure Munis to use a customer’s self-hosted mail system. No matter the system being used, we recommend that you have a dedicated SMTP connector that restricts relaying to Tyler systems only. This is true whether you are self-hosted or using a hosted or third-party mail system.
