PIT Withheld on CA DE9C report doesn't match sum of SIT Amounts withheld in payroll history

Description of Issue

We sum the SIT Deductions from the Earnings and Deductions Detail Proof for each quarter and the amount withheld is greater than what my DE9C PIT Withholdings, what would cause that?

Context
  • Payroll
  • California
  • CA DE9C Report
Cause

Unemployment Tax was unchecked in Employee Master for one or more employees

Resolution

The DE9C generate only includes employees with the Unemployment Tax option selected on the Demographics tab of the Employee Master.

Validating the DE9C number against payroll history only works if all of the payroll history employees have the Unemployment Tax option selected.

To review the flag:

  1. Navigate to HCM > Payroll > Employee Maintenance > Employee Master
  2. Select Search
  3. On the Demographics tab, click the Unemployment Tax checkbox twice (once to check it and again to uncheck it so we can review just those employees that would be missing from the DE9C).
  4. Select Accept
  5. Select Browse and then Excel to create a hard copy.

If you have employees missing from DE9C because of the Unemployment option, you can update the checkbox in the Employee Master if either of the following are true.  Otherwise, reach out to EERP State Reporting Support to review your specific scenario.

  1. This employee is also reported for Unemployment and the option should have been checkmarked to begin with.
  2. You don't report Unemployment

If your PIT discrepancy is not a result of the Unemployment option reference one or both of the following:
