State taxes show withholding but not taken for one employee





Description of Issue
  • In 3 consecutive payrolls, only one employee is not having his state taxes taken 

  • I have an employee who is showing a 17.83 withholding amount, but no taken amount for Connecticut (CT) state taxes.

  • An employee with a high pay out is showing no taken amount for state taxes (CT)

Resolution
  1. Click on Payroll > Payroll Setup > Income Tax Setup > Tax Tables

  2. Search and Accept on the tax table the employee is linked to

  3. Click Calc

  4. Ensure all fields here are populated.

  5. In the toolbar for your state, if there are Exemptions, Credits, Phase-Out or Recapture Amt, go into each section and verify the taxable wage less/equal amounts are 9,999,999.99. 

    1. Click Update. Define 9,999,999.99 in the Less/Equal column on the last line. Click Accept. 

  6. Go back into Earnings and Deductions in the payroll and delete and re-add the state tax deduction. 



Cause
  • highest income tax brackets were not populated with amounts, where this employee was falling based on their salary

  • Employee had a taxable gross higher than 1,000,000.00 and the highest taxable wages were defined at 999,999.99.
