Can a revenue account be encumbered

Encumbrance amount shows on a revenue account but there is nothing in the detail

Yes, Revenue accounts can be encumbered.

MUNIS > Financials > General Ledger Menu > Set Up Chart of Accounts > General Ledger Settings, Update revenue accounts with encumbrance transactions box so it is checked off.

Causes general ledger programs to update encumbrances journals when a revenue account is used on POs or other encumbrance transactions.  These encumbrances are not carried forward at year end.

Previously encumbrance journals would not be created on Revenue or Balance sheet accounts, instead the values on the accounts via Account Inquiry encumbrance front screen would be updated but there would be no backing journal created.
