Authentication error with SSRS report builder





Description of Issue
  • Error when trying to edit SSRS reports in Report Builder

  • Cannot open Report Builder application

  • Cannot browse datasources in SSRS Report Builder

  • 401 error when trying to open datasources in Report Builder



Context

  • Munis 2017.1 and above

  • ASP, SaaS, Tyler-hosted clients



Cause

Report Builder fails to authenticate the user causing a 401 error.



Resolution

Step 1: Change User Authentication mode in Internet Options

  1. Click on the Windows Icon in task bar and search for Internet Options

  2. Go to Security tab

  3. Click once on Internet and Click Custom Level Button

  4. A window will appear with title: Security Settings – Internet Zone

  5. Scroll to section User Authentication

  6. Select Automatic logon with the current username and password

  7. Click Ok

  8. Click on Local Intranet and click Custom Level button.

  9. Repeat Steps 5, 6 and 7.

Step 2: Open SSRS Report Builder through Internet Explorer

  1. Restart Internet Explorer

  2. Open SSRS WebPortal and use your DATACENTER\XXXX username and password.

  3. Select the option Remember credentials.

  4. Once you login to SSRS WebPortal, launch Report Builder

  5. Click Blank Report

  6. Right click on Datasources folder. By default, the option “Use a shared connection or report builder” will be selected.

  7. Click on Browse, and double click on ReportServer URL to browse folders and datasources.
