W-2 Electronic File Format

• What do I need to pick for the file format for my W-2 Electronic File
• I'm getting errors submitting my state electronic file - Error File is missing requires Montana RS30 record. Please recreate the file with RS record and resubmit
• How do I create an electronic W2 file for my state

• Create W-2 Electronic File

Not selecting the correct W-2 file format. 

1. Go to W-2 Wizard. (Payroll>W-2 and 1099-R Processing>W-2 Wizard)
2. Click on Step 7. Electronic File in the Menu. 
3. For the Federal File select Format Code FDWM - FEDERAL W2 EFW2
4. For the State File, select the Format Code for your State.  If your state is not listed, select format SGWM - STATE GENERAL W2 EFW2

• Some states have a specific state file format they will need to select. 
• For the Federal File, and most state files, click the box for CR/LF at End of Record to have carriage returns at the end of each line in the file
