Cause

The parcel size shown in Tax Settings is greater than the 20-character parcel length that the program can handle.

Resolution

If parcels greater than 20 characters in length are desired, a programming enhancement will likely be required. Please contact the Tax Support team for assistance.

If parcels are not intended to be over 20 characters in length, the following steps can be taken to circumvent the error.

  1. Open Property Revenues > Property Tax Billing > Northeast > Massachusetts > Assessor Setup > Tax Settings

  2. Click Update.

  3. Navigate to the Parcel Display tab

  4. Change the parcel segments to the desired sizes, with a maximum total size of 20 characters.

  5. Click Accept.

Important! Do not leave the Tax Settings program open and in Update mode for any longer than necessary. While in Update mode, all other users will be prevented from performing tax functions by the system.

Note that changes to the Parcel Display tab will affect records retroactively and modify the way many programs and reports format parcel numbers for display.
