What to check before changing SMTP settings

Description of Issue

Needing to change SMTP settings but wanting to ensure continuous service before making changes.

Resolution
  • Check your From Email Addresses on the emails you receive from EERP (Munis) to ensure all of them match the domain you are sending from. If you are using DocOrigin, Tyler Forms can assist with updating email addresses. If you are using ReadyForms, these will be updated in the Delivery Definitions. 
  • Verify your SMTP server is set up to allow emails to relay from a 3rd party application. 
  • Verify your authenticating email account has permission to send as any email addresses you plan on using EERP (Munis) to send emails with.
  • Add your EERP (Munis) server IP Addresses to the allow list. SaaS clients can create a ticket with Tyler Systems Management or Tyler Forms to get the IP addresses needed. 
  • Verify you are using a port that supports the type of authentication you are using. Port 25 will support non-authenticated emails. Port 465 will support emails sending with SSL (depreciated). Port 587 will support emails sending with TLS (recommended). 
  • Integrating Applications such as ESS and TCM will have their own configurations, and will not use the settings in Enterprise ERP (Munis) > System Administration > General Settings > Email
  • Verify the account being used to authenticate is not using multi-factor authentication
Additional Information

It is recommended you update your settings in a non-production environment first and ensure your internal users are able to receive email communications as usual from that environment.  Non-production environments are typically not configured to send emails externally. Tests from non-production can be performed using Email Override Options.
