Do Data Roles provide access to Modules

Want to ensure proper setup of Data Roles, specifically whether access to Modules should be provided through Data Roles or other types of Roles.

Learning about RBAC setup and trying to clarify what access is provided by Data Roles.

• Data Roles do not provide access to modules by themselves.

• Data Roles are used to provide access to records tied to certain types of codes - for example, Location codes on employees. If a user does not have access to the Location tied to an employee, the user will not be able to see the employee.

• Data access is used throughout Enterprise ERP and also applies to GL codes, Pay and Deduction Codes, etc.

• In order to access the modules and programs where this data is contained, users will need a Functional Role which grants menu access and appropriate permissions for processes which the user needs to complete.
