How to forgive held interest
Description of Issue
A bill has positive or negative held interest that needs to be removed, deleted, or forgiven. Held interest cannot be written off. It must be forgiven.Â

Cause
When taking a partial payment that does not cover the interest due as of the effective date, an option is given to hold the interest and collect it later. Alternatively, if the amount of interest paid exceeds the amount of interest due, then negative held interest is created.Â
Resolution
- Navigate to the Forgive Interest program either by searching or using the following path: Property Revenues > Property Tax Billing > Region > State > Collection Processing > Forgive InterestÂ
- Click Define
- Enter the desired Year range in the Bill year range fields.Â
- Select an AR Category rangeÂ
- Enter a specific Bill number if desired, otherwise, leave the field blank to forgive interest on all bills within the years and categories specified previously.Â
- Enter a Customer number, Property code, or Parcel if desired to further narrow the criterion.Â
- Enter an unpaid balance range in the Bill unpaid balance range fields.Â
- Check the Only forgive held interest box.Â
- Enter a Note/Comment. This is a required field.Â
- Click Accept.Â
- Click Select.Â
- Click PDF to view a report of the selected interest.Â
- Click Maintain Int to alter the forgiven interest amounts.Â
- When the numbers are finalized and verified, click Output-Post.Â
- Choose an Output option for the report (Munis printer, Save, PDF, or Display).Â
- Click OK.
- A message appears, Forgive interest for the XXXX selected bills?Â
- Select Yes to proceed or No to cancel.Â
- A message appears, Interest has been forgiven.
- Click OK.Â
