Resolution

Creating a query

  1. Search
  2. Query
  3. Define record selection options:
    • Type an expression directly into the Expression column for the selected field
    • Format to open the Dropdown Assistant, Edit Assistant, or Date Assistant tab to create the expressions
      • Query Wizard displays the appropriate assistant for the type of field that you are querying.
  4. On the appropriate Assistant tab, build the list or identify a range expression for the selected field.
  5. Switch Format Mode Button on any of the tabs to toggle between the list or range expression options
  6. Once you have added the list or range expression, click Format
    • The program displays the list or range expression for the field on the Fields tab
  7. Save As, to save the query and then the program displays the Save As dialog box
  8. In the Description box, type a descriptive name for the query
    • Note: For screens that allow for multiple searches, typing concise descriptions for saved queries can make it easier to identify the appropriate query to use for each search
  9. Should this query be made pubic or private for only the user creating the query?
    1. Leave the Make This Query Public check box selected to allow other users to use the query
    2. Clear the check box to create a private query that only you can access.
  10. OK to save your changes and close the Save As dialog box
    • Note: 11. On the Query Wizard screen, click Execute. The program displays the active set of records found by the query.
Additional Information
  • When you save a query, the program checks the query description to see if it matches one that you have already used
    • This check is not case-sensitive
  • If the descriptions are the same, the program allows you to save the new query in place of the old one.
  • You cannot save a public or private query with a description that another user has already used for a public query
