WCAG 2.1 Federal Requirement 

  • The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 2.1, Level AA, is the technical standard that state and local governments must adhere to for web content and mobile apps. Compliance with these guidelines ensures that digital content is accessible to individuals with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.

Compliance Deadlines

  • Effective Date - June 24, 2024

  • Compliance for Large Public Entities - Public entities, other than special district governments, with a total population of 50,000 or more must comply by April 24, 2026

  • Compliance for Small Public Entities and Special District Governments - Public entities with a total population of less than 50,000 and any public entity that is a special district government must comply by April 26, 2027
