Resolution

Enterprise ERP created a new Tax Table Code for MS (and GA) in 2024, making the Calc screen in Tax Tables easier to define.

If not using a Tax Table Code of 23-Georgia/Mississippi SIT start with Step 1. If already using Code 23, start at Step 4:

  1. Go to State Codes (Payroll>Payroll Setup>Income Tax Setup>State Codes)

  2. Search for State Code MS. Click Accept

  3. Click Update. Change the Tax Table Code to 23-GEORGIA/MISSISSIPPI SIT. Click Accept

    1. If Tax Table Code field shows 01-Like Federal, this will still work, but the Calc and Tax Table screens will be defined differently than mentioned in this article.

    2. It is recommended to make the change to the Tax Table Code 23 option.

  4. Go to Tax Tables (Payroll>Payroll Setup>Income Tax Setup>Tax Tables)

  5. Search for the 01/01/2024 effective dated MS tables.

    1. There should be a Married, Single and Head of Household.

    2. Click Copy Table in the toolbar and define the new Effective Date, 01/01/2025

    3. Repeat for all three tables.

  6. Once they are all created, start with the first table (for example Single) and click Calc in the toolbar. Click Update.

    1. For the Single table, locate the Standard Deduction amount on the MS State Tax documentation/website and define in the Standard Deduction field.

      1. The documentation notes for 2025, Married Filing Separate $2,300.00

  7. For the Personal Exemption field, it is recommended to define $500.00.

    1. This is becuase the documentation states the amounts for exemptions can vary depending on filing status and other criteria and are divisible by 500.

    2. For example, if a Single employee claims a personal exemption amount of $6,000.00, the number of Additional Allowances in Employee Deductions would be 12. (6,000/500=12)

  8. Check the box for Multiply Exemption by Allowances

    1. This is what will take the number of allowances x 500.00 to get the total Personal Exemption amount when calculating the withholdings.

  9. Click Accept

  10. Click Tax Table in the toolbar.

  11. For 2025, the MS state tax documentation notes, The tax rates for Tax Year 2025 in excess of 10,000 of taxable income is a flat 4.4%.

    1. Define Over 0, But not Over 10,000.00, +/-Amount 0.00, +/-% 0.000 on the first line.

    2. Second line define Over 10,000.00, But not Over 999999999.99, +/-Amount 0.00, +/-% 4.4.

  12. Click Accept

  13. Repeat steps 6-11 for the Head of Household and Married tables.

    1. Note: the only difference will be the Standard Deduction amounts, the rest of the Calc screen and Tax Table screen will be the same on all three tables.

If the Tax Table Code was changed to 23, follow the next following steps:

  1. Go to Employee Deductions (Payroll>Employee Maintenance>Employee Deductions)

  2. Search for any employees that have an amount defined in the Exemption box for the State Tax Deduction. That amount will need to be moved to the Additional Allowances field.

    1. For example, if site was using a tax table code of 01-Like Federal in prior years, the Exemptions box would have been used to calculate the Personal Exemptions, however the new Tax Table Code of 23-Georgia/Mississippi uses the Additional Allowances field for that calculation.

    2. Using the example in Step 7. If a Single employee withheld 6,000.00 Personal Exemption, a 12 would be in the Exemptions box. The 12 would now need to be removed from the Exemptions field and defined in the Additional Allowances field.

  3. Go to Deduction and Benefit Master (Payroll>Payroll Setup>Deduction and Benefit Master)

  4. Search for State Tax Deduction (4000). Click Update

  5. Change the Tax Table Type field to 23-Georgia/Mississippi SIT. (If applicable).

  6. Click Accept
