Error adding employee in Job Salary-Job is position-controlled

Description of Issue

When adding a new employee in Employee Job/Salary, user is stopped at the Position Control field and an error shows at the bottom of the screen:

Job is position-controlled and you must enter a position

Context
  • Enterprise ERP Payroll

  • Employee Job/Salary

  • Job Class Master

  • Position Control

Cause

In Job Class master, box for Position Control is checked for this Job Class code.

Resolution

Review Position Control to see which Positions, if any, are attached to the Job Class.

  1. Navigate to Human Resources>Position Control and Budgeting>Position Control.

  2. Click Search.

  3. Select All Search Period.

  4. Enter Job Class.

  5. Click Accept.

If there are no Position Control Numbers attached to the Job Class and no employees should hold Position Numbers while occupying this Job Class:

  1. Navigate to Payroll>Payroll Setup>Job Class Master.

  2. Search for Job Class.

  3. Click Update.

  4. Uncheck Position Control checkbox.

  5. Click Accept.

  6. Return to Payroll>Employee Maintenance>Employee Job/Salary.

  7. Click Add.

  8. Enter Employee Number and Job Class.

  9. Enter any additional information.

  10. Click Accept.

If Position Control should be used with this Job Class, use one of the existing Positions when entering the record, or create a new one.

  1. Navigate to Human Resources>Position Control and Budgeting>Position Control.

  2. Click Add.

  3. Enter Position Number and associated information.

  4. Click Accept.

  5. Return to Payroll>Employee Maintenance>Employee Job/Salary.

  6. Click Add.

  7. Enter Employee Number and Job Class.

  8. Enter valid Position Number.

  9. Enter any additional information.

  10. Click Accept.
