Cause

This article covers the installation process for the Honeywell Scanner for Cashiering 2019.1+

Resolution
  1. Download the Cashiering Hardware Drivers installation package from Tyler Community at https://tylercommunity.tylertech.com/cashiering/m/downloads/35856
  2. Navigate to the download location and unzip/extract all files from TylerCashiering.DeviceDriversInstaller.2020.2.0.1.zip
  3. Navigate to TylerCashiering.DeviceDriversInstaller.2020.2.0.1\ManualHardwareDriversV3\Xenon1900\HSM USB Serial Driver ver 3.1.4
  4. Right-click on setup.bat and choose Run as administrator
    1. On the Welcome screen, click Next
    2. The default installation path is C:\Program Files\Honeywell\Honeywell HSM Serial Driver x64 version 3.1.4
    3. Install driver for Everyone
    4. Click Next through the remaining screens until installation is complete
  5. Once the install is done, connect the scanner to the PC and wait for Windows to detect and install the 19xx scanner
    1. After connecting the scanner but before scanning the QR code, in Device Manager the scanner will show under POS Barcode Scanner as POS HID Barcode scanner. This is normal at this point, but the QR code below must be used to switch it to COM port use to work correctly with the Cashiering Hardware Console.
  6. It's a good idea to reset the scanner back to its defaults before adding further programming for use with Tyler apps. To reset to defaults, first scan the top Remove Custom Defaults bar code, then scan the Activate Defaults bar code.
  7. Scan the QR code below to configure the scanner for Cashiering and to put it in COM port emulation mode
  8. Open Windows Device Manager
    1. Expand Ports (COM & LPT) and note the number of the COM port that the scanner was created on as this will be required to setup the scanner in the Cashiering Hardware Console. If you are unsure which port is being used, you can unplug the scanner, observe which one disappears, then plug it in again and observe which one appears.
  9. Open the Cashiering Hardware Console
    1. Click the Pencil icon
    2. Add the scanner and set the COM port to reflect what you see in Device Manager
    3. Click Save
    4. Close Hardware Console from browser and system tray, then restart Hardware Console before testing: How to Restart Cashiering Hardware Console
  10. Setup and test in Cashiering
    1. In Cashiering, navigate to Administration Payment Types
    2. Locate applicable payment type and click the Pencil icon to edit
    3. Click the Scanning tab
    4. Click into Test Scan field
    5. Scan applicable item
Additional Information
  • You must have administrator rights to install drivers
  • If you intend to use the scanner for OCR, you must have a license for it. On some models, the license is an additional cost. See https://sps-support.honeywell.com/s/article/Does-the-Xenon-support-OCR-reading for further information.
  • OCR-A and OCR-B is supported. OCR-A tends to be easier to read. You can find the OCR-A font in Microsoft Word to create test strings if you wish. No need to print first – you can scan them on the screen.
