Tax bill file is including interest

Description of Issue

The motor vehicle, personal property, real estate, or other tax bill file that was generated, printed in house, sent to the printer, or another 3rd party, like an online payment service (Unipay, Invoice Cloud, etc.), is including interest amounts and should not. Need to know how to generate a bill file without interest.

Context
  • Property Tax Billing
  • Bill Files
  • Interest
Cause

The effective or calculate interest to date chosen when generating the file was on or after the interest date listed on the bills.

Resolution

Most tax bill printing programs have an effective of calculate interest to date field. If no interest should be in the file, then this date will need to be any day before the interest date on the bills.

A bill's interest date can be viewed in Bill Inquiry. If the interest date is not populated in Bill Inquiry when viewing a bill, please use the following guide to make the necessary adjustments to show this information: Update User Preferences to Show Additional Information in Bill Inquiry and Payment Entry

The interest date used to generate the bills can typically be viewed in Tax Year Settings. The dates in Tax Year Settings are only accurate to what is on the bills if they have not been manually updated since the bills were generated. If the dates in Tax Year Settings were manually updated since the bills were generated, then the update needs to be applied to the tax bills using the 'Bill Adjustments Mass Date Change' article below.

Re-run and generate the file again using the correct date, then provide the file to any 3rd parties as necessary.
