Enterprise ERP Testing Timelines

Description of Issue

Overview on Testing an in-place upgrade versus a server migration.  Why on Server Transfers testing, why will it take max 6+ months as opposed to 12 weeks with in-place? Which document speaks to the additional Server Transfers testing? Is there a Server Migration documentation from the testing perspective?

Context
  • In-Place Upgrade

  • Server Migration

Cause

Informational.

Resolution

Testing for in-place upgrades on existing servers usually takes 8 - 12 weeks.  When upgrading in place, you are reviewing the operation with your business practices.

Testing for server migrations usually takes anywhere from 12 weeks to six months.  When you add new infrastructure into the mix, you have other hardware (printer, scanners, etc.), connectivity to other devices or resources at your site, as well as tuning the system.
