Improving a fully depreciated asset

Improving a fully depreciated asset

Description of Issue

Can a new starting depreciation date be set when improving a fully depreciated asset?

Context

Capital Assets

Cause

Informational

Resolution

Improving a fully depreciated asset would result in depreciation picking back up from the last year and period that were taken.  If there was a gap between that last year and period of depreciation and the improvement, a new asset should be created for the improvement amount:

  1. Use the New Assets program to create a new asset for the full value and useful life of the improvement
  2. In the Parent field, enter the asset number of the original, fully depreciated asset to link the two of them together
Additional Information

There is no functionality to skip periods of depreciation when improving a fully depreciated asset
