How to create a Tax Exemption Code

Need to create and Exemption Code for the Exemptions / Credits program.

Use the following steps to create an Exemption Code.
- Navigate to the Exemption Codes program.
- For Northeast tax, use the following menu path: Property Revenues > Property Tax Billing > Region > State > Assessor Setup > Exemption Codes.
- For Southeast or Midwest tax, use the following menu path: Property Revenues > Property Tax Billing > Region > State > Setup > Exemption Codes.
- Click Add.
- Enter in the desired Code.
- Enter in a Description.
- Enter in a Short description.
- Select a Module from the dropdown menu. This is used to determine which Enterprise Revenue module the code will apply to.
- Note: Tax Billing is used for Real Estate and Personal Property is used for Personal Property.
- Select Totally exempt if the exemption code represents a total exemption.
- Note: This checkbox is available only when Tax Billing is selected as the Method.
- Select a Method to calculate the exemption from the dropdown menu.
- Enter in the value for the Amount/percent.
- Enter in the Maximum amount for the exemption.
- If desired, enter in the general ledger account number for the exemption. This is not required and can be left blank.
- Note: The account must be a balance or revenue account.
- From the dropdown menu, select the Type.
- Select whether the exemption Applies to Principal / Tax or Assessment.
- Enter in the Minimum age if the exemption code will require this.
- Enter in an Abbreviation. This field is not required and can be left blank.
- Exemption charges exist is not available to select. This is only used to indicate whether the exemption is set to apply to specific charge codes. See steps below to set this.
- Select Applies to primary residence if desired.
- Select Reimbursable by the state if the exemption code meets this requirement.
- Click Accept.
If in step 8 above, the Method is set to Table, use the following steps to create an income range table.
- Click Income / Net Worth.
- Click Add.
- Enter in the Maximum charge relief amount. This specifies the maximum relief amount allowed for all income ranges.
- Enter values and percentages in the empty table rows to add new net worth ranges.
- From / To indicate the range of income amounts subject to a relief percentage.
- When adding a new income range in a row, the value entered in the From field must be greater than the value entered in the To field from the previous range.
- Percent specifies the maximum relief amounts applied to income ranges.
- From / To indicate the range of income amounts subject to a relief percentage.
- Click Accept.
If the exemption code will only apply to certain charge codes, use the following steps. This will cause the checkbox for Exemption charges exist in step 16 above to display selected as a default.
- Click Exemption Charges.
- Click Add.
- In the Year field, enter in the tax year to which the exemption applies.
- In the Charge field, enter in the tax charge code to apply to the exemption code.
- Click Accept.
- Click Copy Charges to copy charges codes from one year to another.
- In From year, enter in the tax year of charges to be copied.
- in to year, enter in the tax year to copy charges into.
- Click Accept.
- Click OK.
