Description of Issue

I received the following error from the IRS uploading my corrected 1099-R electronic file: You have identified your file as a correction, however; the data is not coded with a G or C in position 6 of the B record.

Cause

Employee's 1099-R record was not flagged as corrected.

Resolution

Access Employee W-2 and 1099-R: Payroll > W-2 and 1099-R Processing > Employee W-2 and 1099-R
Click 1099-R, Search on the employee
Click Update, click on the Corrected flag, and click on Accept
Access Create Electronic File: Payroll > W-2 and 1099-R Processing >Create Electronic File
Click Define, select FD9D - FEDERAL 1099-R for the Format Code, flag the CR/LF at End of Record
Define the remainder of the Withholdings and Configuration section as it pertains to your site
Select CORRECTED ONLY for the Record Corrected Status
Define the Employer Info, Employer Contact Info and Contact Info tabs as necessary
Click Text File in the ribbon to generate the file
