Election workers did not generate W-2s
Description of Issue
My election workers didn't generate W-2s.
Context
- Payroll
- W-2 and 1099-R Processing
- Employee W-2 and 1099-R
- W-2 Wizard
Cause
- Election worker Job Class was not defined on the Dependent Care/Election Workers/Retirement tab of Step 3 on the W-2 Wizard
- Election workers did not make enough to contribute to FICA or Medicare
Resolution
W-2 records will need to be manually added for the election workers because they did not contribute to FICA and Medicare:
- Access Payroll > W-2 and 1099-R Processing > Employee W-2 and 1099-R.
- Click Define. Enter year 20XX and click W-2
- Click Add to begin creating the W-2 record
Additional Information
- Munis will only generate a W-2 for an election worker if they earn at least $600.00 in gross wages and contribute to FICA and Medicare deductions.
- The create process of W-2s has logic where if the employee's Job Class is defined as an Election Worker and the gross is under $600.00, it will not create a W-2.
- If the employees make over the $600.00, they will generate a W-2, however their wages are not subject to FICA/Medicare until they reach the limit ($2000.00 for 2021)
