Description of Issue

Unable to process credit card payments within Cashiering and are receiving the following error: 

Error 
An error occurred adding a tender:
Function failed. Error communicating with host

Context

  • Tyler Cashiering

  • Tyler Cashiering Hardware Console

  • TC

  • Cashiering 

  • OpenEdge

Cause

Cashiering Hardware Console Configured incorrectly

Credit Card Device does not have to be configured within the Hardware Console 

Resolution

  1. Open the Tyler Cashiering Hardware Console

  2. Click the Pencil icon to review configured devices. This will open the Workstation Setup screen.

  3. Determine if a Credit Card Reader device has been configured.

    1. Field will likely read EMV Capable Device.

  4. Click Save or Cancel depending on if changes were made.

If a Credit Card Device is listed:

  1. From the Active Device page within the Hardware Console click the Waste Bin / Trash icon to delete the device. 

  2. Click Yes when prompted.

  3. Have User reattempt processing a credit card transaction with new configuration.

Additional Information

When OpenEdge is used as the Credit Card Processor: The Hardware Console must be started and visible in the Microsoft Windows System Tray. However, a device does not have to be configured as communication with the reader will be dictated by RCM configuration.
