Description of Issue

A windows service is failing to start with the following error: The XXXXX service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this XX time(s). How do we prevent that? 

Context
  • Windows Services
  • Server Administration
  • TSM OnPrem
Cause

The service attempted to start, but there was an issue causing the service to terminate.

Resolution
  1. Connect to the server that has the service(s) terminating
  2. Open Services
  3. Scroll down to find the affected service
  4. Right click the service name > Properties
  5. Select the Recovery tab
    1. Set the First failure and Second failure to Restart the Service
    2. Set Reset fail count after to 1 day
    3. Set Reset service after to an appropriate time
      1. For instance: 5 minutes
