  • Honeywell 1900

  • Honeywell 1950

  • Honeywell 1960

  • Hand held scanner

  • Scan line

Cause

This article covers the installation process for the Honeywell Scanner for Cashiering 2019.1+

Resolution

Installation

  1. Download the Tyler Cashiering Installation package from the Community Pages at https://tylercommunity.tylertech.com/cashiering/m/downloads/35856

  2. Extract the “ManualHardwareDriversV3” directory from the zip to a temp folder on the PC (i.e. C:\temp).

  3. Open the “<TEMPDIR>\ManualHardwareDriversV3\Xenon1900\HSM USB Serial Driver ver 3.1.4” directory. Right-click on bat and choose “Run as administrator”.

    1. On the Welcome screen, click Next

    2. The default installation path is C:\Program Files\Honeywell\Honeywell HSM Serial Driver x64 version 3.1.4

    3. Install driver for Everyone

    4. Click Next through the remaining screens until installation is complete

  4. Once the install is done, connect the scanner to the PC and wait for Windows to detect and install the 19xx scanner.

    1. After connecting the scanner but before scanning the QR Code in step 6, Device Manager will show the scanner under POS Barcode Scanner as POS HID Barcode scanner. This is normal at this point, but the QR in step 6 must be used to switch it to COM port use to work correctly with Cashiering’s Hardware Console.

  5. In order to begin with a known starting point, it's a good idea to reset the scanner back to its defaults before adding further programming for use with Tyler apps. To reset to default, first scan the top “Remove Custom Defaults” bar code, then scan the “Activate Defaults” bar code

  6. Scan the barcode below to configure the scanner for Tyler Cashiering. This QR sets

    1. USB COM port emulation (CDC ACM) (default is USB PC keyboard)

    2. Beeper volume setting: Low (default is high)

    3. OCR Template Selection: “User and Internal MICR E-138 Templates” (default is “User Template Only”)

    4. OCR: “OCR On – Normal Video” (default is OCR Off)

    5. OCR Template: “135E320 “ (default is “13777777770”). This setting specifies both OCR-A and OCR-B, only Numeric values, 32 characters.

    6. Suffix Command Value: 990D0A (default is NULL)

  7. In Windows Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT) note the number of the new COM port that the scanner was setup on using the above QR. This will be required to setup the scanner in Tyler Cashiering. Note the wording “Xenon 1900 Area-Imaging Scanner” may be different. If ambiguous as to which port, you can unplug the scanner, observe which one disappears, then plug it in again.

  8. Scanner hardware installation is complete.

  9. Setup Tyler Cashiering’s Hardware Console

    1. Open the Cashiering Hardware Console

    2. Add the scanner into the Hardware Console and set the COM port to reflect what you see in Device Manager

    3. Restart Hardware Console before testing: How to Restart Cashiering Hardware Console

  10. Setup and Test in Tyler Cashiering

    1. Navigate to Administration Payment Types

    2. Locate applicable payment type and click the Pencil icon to edit

    3. Click the Scanning tab

    4. Click into Test Scan field

    5. Scan applicable item

Options

Presentation Mode

Scan the Presentation Mode barcode below if the scanner will be in stand, or any other situation where it should always be on.

39 Character OCR Scanning – (Munis bills): If needed, [ CSH-2892 (Honeywell 1900 not reading Munis installment scan line format properly) ] the scanner can be configured for 39 numeric character scanning instead of 32 using this QR. This QR makes only the following modification:

OCR Template: “135E390” (OCR-A & OCR-B, Numeric only, 39 characters)

41 Character OCR Scanning – alpha-numeric string and spaces (spaces count toward 41 character limit). Does not read more than one consecutive space - (Special Use), This QR makes only the following modification:

OCR Template: “138E410” (OCR-A & OCR-B, Any type of character, including spaces, 41 characters)

44 Character OCR Scanning – alpha-numeric string with no spaces. This QR makes only the following modification:

OCR Template: “137E440” (OCR-A & OCR-B, Alpha and Numeric characters, no spaces, 44 characters)

Additional Information
  1. You must have administrator rights to install drivers.

  2. If you intend to use the scanner for OCR, you must have a license for it. On some models, the license is an additional cost. See https://sps-support.honeywell.com/s/article/Does-the-Xenon-support-OCR-reading for further information.

  3. OCR-A and OCR-B is supported. OCR-A tends to be easier to read. You can find the OCR-A font in Microsoft Word to create test strings if you wish. No need to print first – you can scan them on the screen.
